Complex Lifts in Challenging Conditions
Recently, one of our long-standing clients completed the construction of a new covered slipway at a reservoir in North Wales – but faced a final challenge: The safe installation of nine 15t concrete flood gates designed to manage water flow during storms and prevent downstream flooding.
Initially, a mobile crane was considered, but site access and terrain limitations made it unviable without significant logistical planning. That’s when our client called on us to provide a Contract Lift solution.
Following a detailed site visit by our Head of Operations and qualified Appointed Person, Andrew Pearson, we proposed a unique approach using a Liebherr LTR1060 crawler crane.
The challenge? Navigating a 150m-long encased slipway with just 100mm of clearance. The task? Lifting and rotating each gate 180 degrees, then tracking the crane while the load was suspended to maintain a tight 6m radius for installation. The twist? Each gate had to be watertight-tested in situ – requiring multiple lifts in and out to allow for seal modifications.

Over three days, our team successfully completed the project under full Contract Lift conditions, supplying:
The crane and lifting accessories,
Appointed Person,
Lift Supervisor,
Slinger/Signaller,
And most importantly – peace of mind for the client.
We launched our Contract Lift Division in 2024 to meet growing demands from clients looking for turnkey lifting solutions. With our in-house expertise and under-hook insurance already in place, the transition was a natural evolution – and this project proves that we’re much more than a crane hire company.

Investing in the Next Generation
We believe it is our responsibility to provide young people with real-life employability experiences. This kind of work exposure not only builds confidence but also fosters independence and personal growth.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Jacob a Year 11 student from Saddleworth High School, for a week of work experience – and what an incredible week it was!
Jacob dove into a variety of tasks, from filing and invoicing to site visits. He assisted with crane rigging, participated in contract lifting, flew the drone, and received an introduction to safe crane operation. His enthusiasm was infectious, and by the end of the week, he was reluctant to return to school!
It’s inspiring to see Jacob was so passionate about the crane and lifting industry. His experience has ignited a desire to pursue a career in this field, and we couldn’t be more excited to witness the next generation showing such genuine interest and enthusiasm for the trade.
Let’s continue to support and invest in our future leaders!
